Gameplay, Symbols and Pay Tables
So as we know, Bonanza-type Megaways™ use a six reel set up, each reel landing with anywhere from two to seven rows. With all six reels displaying seven symbols there are 117,649 win lines available. The lower value symbols on the reels are the 10 through to Ace, whilst the higher value symobls are the scrolls, the wands, the potions and the magical orbs. The Merlin character is the highest paying at 50x for six on a payline.
The familiar cascading wins mechanic is also in use here – for every winning spin, winning symbols are removed and replaced with new ones. If more wins are created the process repeats, and so on, until no more winlines are created.
You should also look out for the wild symbol which can replace all others bar the Spell Book scatter which will be needed to set up your free spins round.
Magic Merlin Megaways™ Features
Like Bonanza and other classic Megaways™ slots, Magic Merlin uses a Mystery Symbol (in this case the card). When it lands each instance of the card will turn into one of the main symbols from the game, creating more instances of that symbol and more chances of winning.
To kick off the free spins round you will need four or more Spell Book scatters.
This gets you 12 spins, with each extra scatter above the base level of four earning you an extra 5 free spins. With each cascading win from the free spins a multiplier to be applied to your wins will increase by 1x. It does not re-set at the end of each cascading sequence, which means it can increase to a very high number giving the opportunity for huge wins. Watch out as well for more scatters landing in the separate 4×1 reel set above the main one which will increase your free spins cache still further.
THE SLOT BUZZ VERDICT
Magic Merlin is a standard Megaways™ slot, using an almost identical engine to that of Big Time Gaming’s Bonanza, the one that kicked things off in the first place. That doesn’t make this a bad game though – Merlin has great graphics and for anyone with more than a passing interest in this slots phenomenon, will be a must play for 2019.
